Job Summary

Tuvli, an Akima company, is hiring for a Women, Peace and Security Policy Advisor to support our DoS client located in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as advisor to CSO, regional bureaus, the NSC, office of the Under Secretary (J), and Embassies on matters related to intersection of conflict and fragility and Women, Peace and Security (WPS) issues.

  • Coordinate CSO’s engagement in the Women, Peace and Security Steering Committee, Sub-Interagency Policy Committee meetings on Global Gender Issues, and various other Department and inter-agency meetings.

  • Coordinate across CSO offices with colleagues, CSO leadership, the Department and the interagency to gather, analyze and implement WPS policies and programs.

  • Support CSO in incorporating WPS and Gender Analysis of Conflict into the implementation of the Global Fragility Act, the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act, and other CSO policy initiatives.

  • Coordinate CSO’s contributions to WPS/GBV-focused strategies, policies, data calls, and conferences.

  • Support CSO’s regional and functional offices with WPS/GBV expertise in developing diplomatic and programmatic concepts, statements, etc.

  • Communicate with the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI) to coordinate Department WPS priorities.

  • Provide subject-matter expertise and carry out WPS initiatives in the field and/or in Washington, DC.

  • Produce briefing papers, talking points, and remarks to justify decisions, provide guidance, persuade audiences on WPS issues.

  • Craft and deliver, CSO-approved oral presentations and briefings to high-level officials on WPS policy priorities.

  • Ensure inclusion of WPS equities in CSO priorities, specifically as they relate to conflict, stabilization, and atrocity prevention efforts.

  • Identify or seek out NGOs, international partners, U.S. government agencies, and other civil-society organizations in the United States and overseas important to CSO’s WPS priorities.

  • Facilitate CSO’s WPS Working Group.

  • Report to the CPP Deputy Director and operate as part of a team, working closely with relevant experts within CSO and the Department.

  • Interact with senior- and working level-officials as well as interagency contacts and posts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years’ experience in and demonstrated abilities in project research and management, policy planning and assessment, designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating policies related to international affairs, with an emphasis on WPS issues.

  • Experience and leadership abilities analyzing, initiating and programs, particularly in the areas of conflict resolution and reconciliation, democracy and civil society empowerment, and coalition building as they relate to WPS issues.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. foreign policy goals and objectives, interagency and international structures, and the role of civil society in policy formulation.

  • One year of relevant experience with a U.S. government foreign affairs agency in reporting and analysis, and strategic planning.

  • Experience developing relationships with and between various levels of government officials and civil society partners.

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work or collaborate with senior officials from other international organizations, bilateral donors, and nongovernmental organizations who may be important to CSO’s programs and objectives.

  • Active Secret Clearance.

Posted Salary Range

140,000 - 145,000
