Job Responsibilities

  • Provide web or print based visual and communications product development support in technical specialty areas such as healthcare, technical/social scientific disciplines via use of graphic design, multimedia production, technical writing/editing, desktop publishing, or others as relevant.

  • Support the program office with development of visuals for finished intelligence products, support visuals, various internal and external briefing materials, and product templates.

  • Working with customers to conceptualize and develop visuals.

  • Providing one-on-one consultations with requirement owners to assess, interpret, and develop visuals as needed to support the program office in public health discipline.

  • Applying knowledge of design principles to create succinct visual compositions.

  • Assist with all aspects of producing visual information for print and online uses, including the design, creation, and preparation of support visuals, infographics, charts, graphs, maps, process charts, illustrations, and related content. Specific visuals for information products may include: bar chart, pie chart, line chart, flow chart, organizational chart, data/heatmap, maps, area graphs, illustration, timeline, and covers.

  • Collaborates with analysts, functional specialists, subject matter experts, and project managers to produce products and solutions.

  • Work closely with the requirements owner to elicit the requirements; and research and develop original concepts, ideas, design, to initiate the product development; and facilitate the product development and review process to ensure timely production.

  • Leads and helps define tasks and may assist or manage the work of other support specialists including the design, layout, and editing of study reports, training, or exercise materials, and other analytical or consulting products; periodic financial reporting as required by contract; technical support for Web based training and exercise sessions; and custom database or application configuration or development to support programs, studies, training, exercises, or policy/regulation development.

  • Engage in on-going analysis of operational services to identify and report on patterns / trends and recommend solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Participate in administrative operations to determine the adequacy of present processes and procedures to improve organizational operations.

  • Assist the key officials in the timely completion of projects or activities of an urgent nature.

  • Travel to client sites (National capital region) as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training

  • 5 years of relevant experience in graphics design, technical writing, desktop publishing

  • Ability to obtain an HHS Public Trust clearance.

  • Experience building visual and communications products for public health or scientific disciplines.

  • Knowledge of creating 508-compliant and accessible documents

  • Must have advanced proficiency in design and editing tools (ex: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat)

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including strong writing/editing/proofreading skills (must have excellent grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation).

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across various functional groups.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in which priorities shift quickly with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and budgetary requirements.

  • Must have the ability to work independently or under only general direction.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time (must be local to National Capital Region or willing to travel on short notice).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Direct, hands-on experience with HHS or public health or scientific organizations

  • Work Portfolio including samples for HHS or public health domain.

  • Experience with UX principles and Front-end development experience is desired (not required) - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
