Job Responsibilities:
Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, material handling equipment, trucks, and tractors.
Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Has the ability to use diagnostic flow charts and schematics to solve complex mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the motor vehicle mechanic trade and small engine repair.
Working knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of motor vehicles.
Has the ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Working knowledge of the hazards and standard safety precautions of the trade.
Skill in the use of tools and operation of equipment employed in motor vehicle repair such as multimeters and other diagnostic equipment.
Skill in diagnosing and repairing defects in motor vehicle equipment.
Ability to maintain records.
Ability to work from specifications and oral and written instructions.
Ability to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more).
Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system problems using a variety of test equipment.
Repairs and maintains engines, transmissions, and related components by repairing and replacing pumps, rebuilding or replacing transmissions, repairing and replacing starters, grinding valves, replacing gaskets, rings, and seals, and other related work.
Repairs and maintains electrical systems by interpreting schematics, rewiring ignition and lighting systems and other electrical circuits, replacing alternators, controllers, sensors, replacing bulbs and lights, and other related work.
Repairs and maintains other components and systems by adjusting/replacing brakes.
Replaces ball joints and wheel bearings.
Replaces mufflers, exhaust and tail pipes; replacing shock absorbers and struts.
Repairs automotive air conditioning; repairs and replaces hydraulic components and other related work.
Services and tunes up vehicles by checking and changing fluids and filters, rotating tires, adjusting and replacing belts and hoses, adjusting carburetors and fuel injection systems, adjusting valves and other related work.
Maintains tools and clean equipment and work areas.
Properly disposes of filters, oils and HazMat.
Maintains files of completed work orders, service and repair of vehicle, and supplies and equipment ordered and used.
Maintain timecard electronically and hard copy daily.
Is familiar with the Quality Control/ Customer Satisfaction Plan (QC/CSP) requirements and perform QC/CSP actions as required.
May be required to repair automotive air conditioning systems and obtain a MACS certificate.
May be required to participate in on-call schedule
Performs other work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of automotive maintenance.
The applicant/employee will be required to demonstrate competency during a forty-five day probationary period.
Licenses and Certifications.
Valid Class C California Driver License.

Working Conditions:
- Frequently exposed to dust, extreme heat, and cold due to seasonal changes, and air quality associated with a machine shop and outside environment.

Desired Qualifications:

Pay Rate: $27.75 per hour, plus Health & Welfare fringe dollars as defined under the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
