Job Summary:
Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking candidates to support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance customer's core mission. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from customer staff and procedures. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.
Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Job Responsibilities:
Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to personnel involved in preparing shipments and documentation in compliance to Department of Transportation and Department of Energy Transportation requirements.
Proactively participate in transportation regulation or technical issues.
Identification and classification of hazardous waste materials under direct supervision.
Assist with waste package selection, placarding.
Perform and document inspection of transportation related activities including, but not limited to; container and conveyance condition; waste container preparation and acceptance; waste container closure and overall acceptability.
Oversee waste materials sorting, segregation, and waste packaging activities.
Facilitate waste transporter arrangements.
Review transportation tenders and provide management with recommendations to include or reject.
Prepare waste shipments, manifest, and other related documents in compliance Department of Transportation, DOE Orders, UCOR programmatic requirements.
Interface with Waste Programs representatives and Waste Generator organization.
Coordinate with waste generators, operations, waste certification and waste program personnel.
Verify and validate waste shipments are completed per site requirements.
Participate and pass transportation qualifications training courses.
Provide technical assistance to fellow staff members as requested by the Department Manager.
Receives technical and operational direction from the Department Manager.

Determine the most cost-effective packaging arrangement and interface with Waste Generators to ensure selected packaging will comply with waste acceptance criteria and Department of Transportation regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Level 2:
- Education/Experience: AA/AS and 2 years of related experience or 6 years of related experience without a degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to obtain waste transportation certification.
Level 3:
- Education/Experience: AA/AS and 5 years of experience or 9 years of related experience without a degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Acquired waste transportation certification.
Level 4:
- Education/Experience: AA/AS degree and 8 years of experience or 12 years of related experience without a degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have acquired waste transportation certification.
Level 5:
Education/Experience: AA/AS degree 10 years of experience or 14 years of related experience without a degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have acquired waste transportation certification.
Level Specific Responsibilities: Under nominal supervision, supports the development of waste transportation documentation, preparation of manifest, placarding, material inventory of shipment, etc. that meets the DOT regulations and DOE orders.
Level 6:
Education/Experience: AA/AS degree 12 years of experience or 16 years of related experience without a degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have acquired waste transportation certification.
Level Specific Responsibilities: Under nominal supervision, supports the development of waste transportation documentation, preparation of manifest, placarding, material inventory of shipment, etc. that meets the DOT regulations and DOE orders.
