Job Summary:

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking candidates to support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance customer's core mission. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from customer staff and procedures. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, will administer a specific function of the Industrial Hygiene program on the project level. Performs basic and routine duties to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Implements the day-to-day programmatic and field aspects of the Industrial Hygiene Program in accordance with 10 CFR Part 851, Worker Safety and Health Program, requirements.

  • Performs collateral safety and health duties commensurate with qualifications, aptitude, and ability (including job coverage, monitoring, and conduct of management assessments and surveillances upon request.

  • Participates in the formulation of action plans in response to identified deficiencies.

  • Supports industrial hygiene sampling activities in compliance with written work plans, sampling protocols, and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Performs air and bulk sampling, noise surveys, temperature assessments, etc. Sampling may include response to incident sampling events and may include chemical decontamination, where applicable.

  • Inputs and generates employee sampling notification letters, reports, and other industrial hygiene-related sampling data records to the Industrial Hygiene database.

  • Assists Facility Management as directed with access control, posting and labeling in accordance with industrial hygiene and/or safety-related posting needs (e.g., respirator area, asbestos-regulated area, etc.).

  • Reports to Project Industrial Hygienist for day-to-day project direction.

  • Maintains daily contact, in accordance with specific assignment, with Junior Industrial Hygiene Technicians, superintendent, field engineers, craft personnel, and other discipline personnel to assist in the successful implementation of the Industrial Hygiene Program.

  • Is responsive to requests made by Project IH, Project IS/IH Manager, Project ESH Operations Manager and/or UCOR Safety and Health Manager in support of field implementation of programmatic requirements.

  • Provides guidance and monitors the performance of Junior Industrial Hygiene Technician technical support in their assigned area(s).

  • Suspends/stops work as warranted, without fear of reprisal, for activities or practices observed that put worker safety and/or the environment at risk, until it can be demonstrated that it is safe to proceed with the work.

  • May temporarily be assigned to perform duties as the IH Supervisor during times when IH Supervisor is absent or position is vacant.

Minimum Qualifications:

Level 1/2:

  • Education/Experience: Must be a current student enrolled in the Roane State Environmental Health Technician Program.

Level 3:

  • Education/Experience: AA/AS in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health or related field, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant progressive experience (4 years of directly relevant, progressive work experience without a degree).Required Training / Qualifications: The Industrial Hygiene Junior Technician must have a valid Driver’s License, be qualified to wear respiratory protection, be clean shaven daily for response action, and have or be able to have a security clearance.

Level 4:

  • Education/Experience: AA/AS in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health or related field and 3 years of Industrial Hygiene experience, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant progressive experience (7 years of directly relevant progressive experience without a degree, including at least 3 years as an IHT).

  • Required Training / Qualifications: The Industrial Hygiene Senior Technician must have a valid Driver’s License, be qualified to wear respiratory protection, be clean shaven daily for response action, and have or be able to have a security clearance.

Level 5:

  • Education/Experience: AA/AS in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health or related field and 3 years of Industrial Hygiene experience, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant progressive experience (7 years of directly relevant progressive experience without a degree, including at least 3 years as an IHT).

  • Required Training / Qualifications: The Industrial Hygiene Senior Technician must have a valid Driver’s License, be qualified to wear respiratory protection, be clean shaven daily for response action, and have or be able to have a security clearance.
