Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Job Summary:

Akima Facilities Operations is currently seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic to support the Eagle Ft. Stewart contract in Fort Stewart, GA.

Job Responsibilities:

• The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors.

• Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.

• Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.

• Performs maintenance/modifications and repairs on military equipment as prescribed in the equipment Technical Manuals (TM’s).

• Must become familiar with, but not limited to the following types of equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related systems, such as Generators, Trailers, Material Handling Equipment and a wide assortment of wheeled vehicles up to the 2 ½ weight limit.

• Must be able to use appropriate Technical Manuals (TM’s) in Diagnosing systems malfunctions and in dismantle/reassemble of equipment.

• Work involves most of the following: diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts, such as suspension parts, bearings, exhaust systems, cooling systems, engine components, transmissions, geared hubs, fuel systems, lights and ignition systems, alternators, water pumps, radiators and other unserviceable parts. Have a working knowledge of the operations of lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools. Repair and replace components, engines, transmission, and sub – assemblies.

• Assist team members in solving maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting. Maintains appropriate government required paperwork and the files (Job Packets) necessary for the maintenance and repair of the equipment. Directs workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.

Minimum Requirements

• Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and ideally have completed prerequisite training for Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 91B2O/3O – Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic or have equivalent training with 4-6 years of maintenance experience in the grade of E-5 to E-6.

• Candidate must possess a working knowledge of the appropriate tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks as well as have knowledge of standardized maintenance regulations – specifically DA Pam 750-8, Functional User’s Manual for The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS).

• Desirable: 5-6 years of experience w/High School Diploma or GED certificate.

• Preferred: Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent organization is highly desirable.

• Required:US nationality/citizenship and residence, with verbal and written fluency in English.

• Required: All employees must be able to pass a background security investigation as well as drug/alcohol screening prior to employment.

• Required: All applicants must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) within 87 days of employment.

• Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.

• Maintains tools and equipment and cleans work areas to maintain a safe work environment. Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary.

• Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet Government/Army standards when applicable.

• Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate.

• Employee is required to maintain a valid state-issued Driver’s license and applicable Government/Army license.

• Employee is required to obtain a Common Access Card within 30 days of employment.

• Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.

Physical Demands

• Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs.; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to the weather.

• Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas.

• Such PPE includes but is not limited to, head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.
