Job Summary:
Akima Support Operations is currently seeking a Heavy Equip Mechanic to support the Eagle LSS Contract in Ft Cavazos, TX.
Job responsibilities:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools, and tracked/wheeled vehicles.
This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
This Mechanic must be specialized through education and experience in a military combat system which would include Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and apparatuses . Work involves most of the following:
Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required, replacing worn or broken components on both capsule and systems that support MRAP vehicles.
Educating and providing oversight to non-specialized mechanics to ensure quality services and repairs.
Requires well rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications:
5 years maintenance experience on a required combat system (MRAP)
Operator level knowledge of system capabilities and procedures to operate MRAP systems.
Experience in U.S. Army maintenance procedures and AR 750-1
Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to receive a favorable Tier-1 Investigation and obtain a CAC.
Ability to bring and use own tools.
High School Diploma / GED
Desired Qualifications:
7 years maintenance supervisory experience
US Army MOS 91/63 series qualification
CDL Preferred
ASE Certified Preferred
HVAC EPA Tech Cert 608/609
Physical Demand:
Work environment includes periodic overtime, exposure to heat, dust, cold, and inclement weather conditions.
Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift 60 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.
