Overview
Responsibilities
Performs skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of construction equipment, material handling equipment, heavy and light duty trucks, fire equipment, power generating equipment and other related equipment.
Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and maintains heavy mobile equipment, such as: construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment. Equipment may include bulldozers, tractors, trucks, tracked vehicles, generators and forklifts.
Removes and replaces major systems or components of equipment to include power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, air conditioners, fuel pumps and alternators etc.
Makes idle speed, current, brake, and transmission linkage adjustments.
Performs initial and in-process inspections; performs mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot to localize defects and determine cause of malfunction; performs mechanical maintenance on defective parts; and performs minor body work.
Provides technical assistance to government LRC personnel as well as other equipment repairers.
Operates motor vehicles to perform the duties of this position.
Performs repairs on various types of equipment.
Replaces components when needed.
Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles.
Completes body work.
Inspects and troubleshoots equipment.
Qualifications
Must have a current/valid CDL Class A License: able to pass periodic physical examinations as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation
Experience and/or educational background related to mechanics, electronics, or hydraulic systems.
Related experience: truck-mounted hydraulic utility equipment such as aerial devices, digger derricks, chippers, cranes, specialty equipment; construction, mining, or farm equipment such as dozers or tractors; military heavy equipment such as the MRAP vehicle, HMEE, or tanks; aircraft and aerospace or ground support equipment (AGE/GSE) repair.
Able to develop the computer skills necessary to complete support duties.
Physical effort is required to move objects and service-related tools that may weigh up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling are required to service and repair equipment.
Must have a manual-hand-finger dexterity.
Must have eye-hand-foot coordination.
Must be able to work in internal/external environments that may be in harsh weather condition.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices
Must be US Citizen to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a CAC.
Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
